Head chef Ebie du Toit, who started his career with Luke Dale Roberts as a sculler, says that flavours in the Mother City are more subtle while, like the vibrant City of Gold, here they’re bolder and more intense. The bank of chefs in the open kitchen section are young and enthusiastic. The space is light and airy filled with Japanese-inspired hand-painted flying fish paper lamps by artist Hannelie Coetzee who is also responsible for the the wood etching that runs the length of the restaurant. This new incarnation has already established its own identity. The Pot Luck Club (PLC) recently made its way to Jozi from Cape Town, where it has been wowing diners since 2012 with its globally inspired small plates packed with big flavours.
